New Zealand label Stolen Girlfriends Club is equal parts rock & roll swagger and urban emo. Named for the moments after a fresh breakup when the greatest songs are written and the best art produced, the SGC denim line includes styles titled 'Teen Spirit' and 'Grey Days.' Interesting dye jobs add to the drama- the men's stirrup jean (yes, stirrup!) comes in a waxy black, and the over-bleached Grey Days jean (available for men and women) reworks 80s acid wash into a stormy look.

Cool kids Juliette Lewis and Kate Bosworth are reportedly fans, as are stylish mags Dazed & Confused and Paper. Stolen Girlfriends Club is stocked in New Zealand, Australia and Japan, but if you're not those places, check out pitbullmansion.com or zendie.com for a dose of teen angst/breakup recovery.

Lois are a Spanish denim brand that I remember from my childhood but which hasn't really been on my radar at all recently. Even though they might not be as big a name as they were back in the 1980s these images of their Autumn/Winter 08/09 Collection show that they are still producing some decent-ish women's jeans.

This week's Designer Q & A is with Ben Taverniti, Designer of Hudson Jeans.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?
Jeans are alive .. the fabric is alive .. each pair is unique to itself and tell a story. Every tear, abrasion, fade, stress mark means something and defines the personality of the jean.

Plus, denim is universal and timeless. It’s everywhere and anytime. And, no matter what your style is, everyone is denim appropriate. It connects us all.

2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?
Fit, Fabric, Wash, Period. We have always stuck to creating a flattering fit, using the best fabrics and innovative washes. We are loyal to our style and will never follow trends in our designs. We keep things clean and classic and focus on creating a truly premium jean.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?
Chic, fashionable, confident, and never trendy. Hudson is classic, and that is our customer.
