Zafu - Helping You Find The Perfect Jeans

zf1.jpg
Zafu.com is the most interesting denim related site that has launched this year. They say that they are able to help women find the perfect pair of jeans - which anyone that has ever bought a pair of jeans will know is a pretty ambitious claim. There are many jeans buying guides online but the difference between this site and the others is that Zafu's recommendations are based five years of comprehensive fit research. You are asked to answer eleven questions about fit issues with jeans, body shape, style preferences and size, then Zafu's algorithm searches hundreds of styles from seventy different brands to find you the perfect fit.

Having tested the site without actually purchasing any jeans I reckon that Zafu can certainly lay claim to being the the most comprehensive jeans recommendation service available online. If you have actually used this site and bought a pair of jeans upon their suggestion please share your opinion on the quality of their recommendation on the Denimology Forums.

World's Oldest Levi's

The San Francisco Chronicle has an interesting article about Lynn Downey the historian for Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco who is responsible for Levi's extensive archives of clothing, photographs, posters and artifacts. The jewel in this amazing archive is the world's oldest pair of Levi's (see above) - a pair "XX," one-pocket jeans, which date back to 1879 and are valued at $125,000. Unfortunately the archive is not open to members of the public, however there is a permanent display of choice pieces from the collection in the lobby of the Levi's Heaquarters in San Francisco.

Kate Beckinsale is a Hollywood glamourpuss who could probably look good in a sack, so put her in a $200 pair of jeans and she is obviously going to turn some heads. Here she is looking casual (above left) at a funfair in a pair of True Religion 'Bobby' Indigo jeans and looking sharp and sexy (above right) in New York in a pair of heels and J Brand Black Pencil Leg Jeans.

The Death Of Denim?

vb3.jpg

The Guardian has a typically snobby article warning of the death of denim. They claim this is down to the high price of premium denim combined with the sight of all the WAGs such are Victoria Beckham in their Rock & Republics at the World Cup. I would have to argue that the Posh Spice looking great in a pair of premium jeans is actually likely to sell more pairs rather than put people off them. In the end the article actually contradicts itself by saying - "of course, nobody is going to stop buying jeans altogether. Jeans are something you have to wear like knickers." So maybe it's not quite time to bin your favourite jeans just yet. If you have an opinion on the supposed death of denim why not share it on the Denimology forum.
