World's Ugliest Jeans?
On the whole this site tends to focus on good looking, well made jeans, however anyone with an appreciation of denim will know that there are plenty of horrendous looking jeans out there. I was reminded of that earlier this week when someone started a discussion concerning the "Ugliest Jeans in the World" on the Superdenim message board. Those of a nervous disposition make want to look away now as some of these jeans are real crimes against denim.

Denim Brand Of The Year - J Brand Jeans
2006 has been a pretty incredible year for J Brand Jeans - they have gone from being a start up jeans label to being the hottest denim brand on the planet. In the last 12 months it seems every A List female celebrity has at some point or another been snapped in a pair of J Brands. Their celeb client list includes Angelina Jolie, Kate Moss, Kate Beckinsale, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mischa Barton, Kate Winslett, Jessica Simpson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lindsay Lohan and Reese Witherspoon. In the last few weeks alone Michelle Trachtenberg (see below) was seen promoting her new movie Black Christmas on MTV's TRL in a pair of black J Brands, whilst Nicole Richie (see above) was photographed in an extremely skinny dark blue pair shortly before being arrested for drunk driving. Wherever you looked in the last 12 months it seems that someone was wearing a dark and sexy pair of J Brand Jeans and for that reason I am making them the very first Denimology Denim Brand Of The Year 2006.

Who Has Best Celebrity Denim Behind?
Xmas and New Year is a pretty slow denim news time so how about a poll instead (courtesy of People.com). You can vote for the celebrity whose behind you think looks the best in a pair of jeans. The celebs you can vote for include Beyonce, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston. For my money it has to be Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria (bottom left in the above butt montage), who is small but oh so perfectly formed.

Celebrity Denim Icon 2006 - Kate Moss

The votes are in and I am pleased to announce that Kate Moss has won the Celebrity Denim Icon for 2006. This result is hardly a surprise as the supermodel was partly responsible for this year's biggest denim trend - skinny jeans. However, as soon as everyone else started wearing slim fitting jeans she decided to start another trend after being seen wearing
high-waisted flares. In 2007 there is no doubt that she will continue influencing denim trends worldwide, especially as she will now be
designing her own range of clothing for TopShop.

Designer Q & A - Superfine

This weeks Q&A is with Lucy Pinter and Flora Evans, Designers & Founders of
Superfine.
1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?
L: They're the easiest and cutest thing to wear. You can dress them up or down.
F : They're sexy without being too 'try hard'.
2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?
L: Our identity is strong & our imagery is important to us as it creates a whole look. Our backgrounds make Superfine a little more "fashion denim" I guess..
F: We're London too.
3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?
L: I think people with a little bit of a sense of style/fashion. I hope there's a good mix - all backgrounds, ages and sizes.
F: They've probably got a bit of Rock & Roll going on.
