Project Denim Tradeshow Report

Last week the
Project tradeshow was on in New York and all the best denim brands where exhibiting.
Psychopedia, one of my favourite denim friendly websites sent along someone to check out the jeans on show and select their "
Best in Show". The brands that stood out for them included
PRPS,
Edun,
Proportion of Blu,
Bread and
April 77 who's Munich jeans are shown above. These jeans feature a strip of ribbon running down the outside seam on the legs that was apparently inspired by a classic Pierre Cardin tuxedo.

Evangeline Lilly in Denim Of Virtue Jeans

If you had to be shipwrecked on a desert island with someone, you could do a lot worse than the adorable
Evangeline Lilly from
Lost. Here she is signing autographs last week in a pair of
Denim Of Virtue High Rise Straight Jeans. This label is new to me so I did a little research, apparently DoV was founded by Tadd Zarubica one of the people behind Hudson and Yanuk Jeans and the inspiration behind the brand is to produce jeans that maintain a "balance between minimal styling and overt detailing".

Levi's & The Lawsuits
Last week I
reported that Levi's was sueing a couple of US shops along with a number of Japanese denim brands for trademark infringement. This week
The New York Times has an in depth article detailing Levi's recent history of lawsuits - almost 100 since 2001. Their general conclusion seems to be that since Levi's missed the boat on the whole premium denim explosion they are now getting their own back by sueing anything bearing even the slighest resemblance to their logos, labels or stitching (see above). Mischa Barton in Serfontaine X-Fit Fox Jeans
Mischa Barton was photographed in New York last month wearing a pair of Serfontaine X-Fit Fox Jeans. These jeans have some interesting features such as a contoured waistband to prevent "whale tail" and invisible seams to make the legs appear slimmer. The most innovative feature however is the X-Fit Lycra that the denim is made from. This brand new type of fabric allows the jeans to stretch without bagging meaning they not only are they more comfortable but they are also better able to keep their shape. These jeans are available in stores from February and should retail for around $200.

Imperial Junkie Jeans
Imperial Junkie is a brand new denim label out of LA that has just launched its first range of eye-catching men's jeans. These jeans have been created by Ruben Campos, a veteran of the denim business who understands that denim aficionados will appreciate details such as extra thick three ply thread stitching, ten inch gel prints on the inside of the bottom of the leg, patterned pockets, star-shaped rivets and most important of all top quality Japanese selvedge denim.

Yoropiko Jeans - Diamonds & Denim

Yoropiko are a new brand of jeans from Martin Ksohoh, the guy behind the Red Monkey Company. To ensure that these new jeans stand out in an already overcrowded denim marketplace he has decided to make a feature of the buttons which are crafted from silver and gold and are inset with rubies, sapphires and diamonds.
