Denim Chic 2007 by Vogue

ds1.jpg
Vogue has kicked off 2007 with a in depth feature on denim chic around the world. The report highlights the very best denim designs coming out of Stockholm, Sydney, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Europe. The only problem is that the whole article is in French, however judging by the photos I am pretty sure that their predictions for this year are high-waists (see jeans by Diesel above) and coloured/patterned jeans (see April 77 jeans below). And to top it all off they even have an interview with me!

The goal of the wonderfully named fouder Tierra Del Forte is to produce "a premium denim line while protecting the environment and the farmers". In addition to making their jeans from organic cotton in non-sweatshop conditions they have also launched "Project ReJeaneration" to encourage people to recycle their old denim - if you send them a pair of your old jeans, not only will the use them to produce the next generation of jeans but you will receive a 10% of your next purchase.

2007 is shaping up to be the year that low-rise jeans were replaced by their high-waisted counterparts in every fashionista's wardrobe. Sass & Bide are are always at the forefront of any new trend - they were one of the original companies producing skinny jeans and now they are one of the first denim labels to add a high-waisted jeans to their range. Their new Denim & Play Collection includes the Hulsey Strutter (see above), a distinctive looking high-waisted waisted slim leg jean with front deep patch pockets. With the increased popularity of jeans like this hopefully it won't be long before we can say goodbye to the dreaded muffin top and whale tail.
