Designer Q & A - Nudie Jeans
1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?
Denim is closely connected with rebellion, democratisation and equality. It is the garment for a modern, or maybe post-modern age.
2) Last time I counted there were over 200 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?
I don’t know about the rest but we are truly passionate about denim. We are really denim freaks. Our jeans are made of a lot of love and then. And we share this passion for denim with our carefully selected suppliers in Italy, Japan, USA and Turkey. The love for denim is the needles eye everybody has to pass.
3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?
We don’t.
4) Where do you get your inspiration from?
Mainly music. Music and jeans history.
5) Which style and wash of your jeans are flying out of the shops the quickest at the moment?
Grim Tim Dry Dirt Organic (see above)
6) Are there any essential jeans that everyone should have in their wardrobe?

7) What are the first pair of jeans you remember?
A pair of "Puss och Kram" jeans that I inherited from my older sister. Puss och Kram was a Swedish denim brand in the seventies.
8) What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have owned and why?
Can’t answer this. It would be like answer the question "Which of your kids do you love the most?"
9) What have been your favourite pair of jeans that you have produced and why?

10) How many pairs of jeans do you currently own and which are your favourites?
I only got three pairs right now. Abundance is nothing that I strive for. My favourites is the one break in right know.
11) Are you a "wash your jeans after each wear" person or a "wear your jeans for six months before you wash them" person?
I have to say that I feel a little bit intimidated to get a question like this. I would never wash my jeans earlier then after six months of use.
12) Do you own jeans for different occasions (for instance I have work jeans, smart jeans, weekend jeans, holiday jeans, jeans for going to concerts in, jeans for gardening in) if so what have you got?
No. I use one pair.
13) Which is your favourite jeans shop?
Nudie Jeans Concept Stores.
14) Which celebs are currently wearing your jeans?
I don’t know and I don’t want know.
15) How important big an effect does it have on your sales when a celeb is seen wearing a pair of your jeans?
I don’t know.
16) Who is your current favourite denim icon (male & female). I am thinking the person who has the most denim style?

17) Which person living or dead would you most like to see in a pair of your jeans?
"Blind" Willie Johnson. American blues singer that died 1945.
18) What is the worst denim crime?
To wash a pair of dry denim jeans before six months of use.
19) If jeans had not been invented, what would we all be wearing?
Caftans, which still is a very good alternative.
