Denimology brings you up to date news and reviews of the best premium and vintage denim available online and on the high street.

Rock & Republic - Tailor Made Collection

Rock & Republic showed it's new "Tailor Made" collection at LA's Fashion Week. They turned Sony Studios into a nightclub and had The Pretender's play an hour long set, with Chrissie Hynde wearing an obligatory pair of R&R jeans. Apparently the collection includes jeans that are slimmer at the ankle than previous seasons with back pockets adorned with stitching, studs and rhinestones. So far the only photo (see above) I have been able to find is of a denim jacket with R&R's silver skull logos embroidered on the back.

Denim @ LA Fashion Week 2006

AntikTavernitiYanuk

Last week was LA Fashion Week and there was no avoiding premium denim, with shows from Antik Denim, Taverniti and Yanuk - all owned by Blue Holdings Inc. The three shows had some elements in common - Antik Denim went for a post-punk look with lots of faded black and grey jeans, Taverniti also had black jeans, but their look was more military inspired. Whilst Yanuk again went for black jeans again but this time in an ultra skinny post-apocalyptic "Mad Max" style.

DSquared 2006 Cowboy Range

As well as denim I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the cowboy look, it must be down to all those movies I watched as a kid. DSquared are also currently indulging their cowboy fantasies with their Spring 2006 collection which includes lots of denim, cowboys hats and even a leather apron for when you are shoeing your horse.

Levi's New Moonbathing Ad

The new ad from Levi's features a young stud who slips into his jeans in order to go for a moonbathe on his roof. The styling is quite gothic and the whole thing rather reminds me of last year's movie Batman Returns. You can check out the web exclusive premiere here or view selected screenshots here. In case you were wondering what the soundtrack to the ad is - it's The Horror by R2D2.

True Religion Shares A "Good Buy"

An article from financial website TheStreet.com has predicted True Religion Brand Jeans should be on for a good quarter. Their products are "taking up lots of shelf space in all the right stores which is helping them successfully transform themselves from a trendy jean company to more of a lifestyle brand". As as result of this TheStreet.com is recommending True Religion shares as a "good buy".

PRPS Denim Goods

I only discovered PRPS Jeans late last year but was immediately taken with them. They only use the highest quality African cotton which is woven on old Levi's looms to produce unique looking jeans that really stand out a mile from the rest of the high street. Quality and style don't come cheap though, these jeans really are at the high end of men's premium denim retailing at over £200.

Celebrity Denim - Jessica Simpson

Jessican Simpson goes for Saddlelite Jeans with their retro aqua tinge, simple back pockets and flattering bell leg.

The World's Most Expensive Jeans

I just found this article from last November's Forbes magazine about the world's most expensive jeans which comes complete with a slideshow of the Top 10. The No 1 most expensive pair is by Escada and cost $10,000, I assume that is because of them being studded from top to bottom with Swarovski crystals. It certainly can't be because of the type of denim or the style which is the kind of thing Liberace might have worn when he was trying to look like a camp cowboy.

Get The Desperatve Housewives Look

The characters in Desperate Housewives and are always stylishly dressed and just in case you wanted to try copying their look ABC has put together this site which details exactly where all the characters clothes came from. So if you wondered where Teri Hatcher character got the jeans worn in in the Oct 16th episode then this is the place for you.

Who Is Putting The Vintage In Your Jeans?

Have you ever wondered how denim companies get their jeans to have that perfect faded vintage look? Well brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Habitual, Yanuk, Tag and Taverniti use the services of International Garment Finishing who have a factory full people in LA sanding, stapling, grinding and stabbing just the right amount of fades and frays into your jeans. IFC have recently been profiled in The LA Times and Time Magazine and demand for their services is growing so fast that they are building a second factory in Mexico.

Taverniti Jeans From L.A

I can't tell you much about Taverniti Jeans other than they they come from LA, they look great and they don't come cheap. The pair above are the special edition Janis and are custom made and hand-embellished with antiqued nickel buttons and whipstitching along the waistband, pockets, and side seams.

Levi's Launches "The Carrot" Jeans

News from Australia that Levi's are to launch a brand new style of jeans to be known as "The Carrot". As the name suggests the jeans are baggy around the thighs and taper down to a narrow ankle. According to the press release they are "inspired by the Tokyo's underground subcultures and bring a fresh attitude to an otherwise tired and drab denim world". I don't know about you but these are pretty much the worst looking pair or jeans I have seen since Levi's Engineered Jeans - which apparently are also being re-released this year.

Nudie - My New Favourite Jeans

I have just bought my first pair of Nudie Jeans (Regular Ralf Dry Selvage) and I cannot recommend them highly enough. These are the best looking, fitting and feeling pair of jeans I have worn in years. They are made from 14.5oz denim and the style is straight bootcut that is slightly narrow at the knee. What I especially like about these jeans is the way in which you age them. You buy them untreated and then wear them for six months without washing them, in that time they mould themselves to you like a second skin. When you wash them they loose their colour in the stress points leaving them with a fade that is completely unique to you. There is even a forum dedicated to the best ways to care for and age your jeans. The people behind Nudie are obviously true denim lovers who understand the importance of a great pair of jeans.

If you want to check out some photos of other people wearing their favourite denim then I recommend trying flickr. It's a photo sharing site where the images are tagged with descriptive words such as jeans, bluejeans, mycooljeans, denim or levis. It's completely free, so why not upload some photos of your own favourite jeans photos.
