D.I.Y. Guide to Instant Vintage Jeans

Those hot bitches over at Marc Ecko's Complex did a banging post on getting that vintage look in a matter of minutes rather than 10 or 20 years! I have to quote them because, well, Complex is awesome, and one of my favorite inspirational sites!
If you're looking for some new jeans, we'd usually suggest a nice pair of raw, unwashed denim. There's nothing better than buying a new pair, breaking 'em in, and watching 'em transform into a unique denim tapestry with rips and abrasions exclusive to you, and you alone. But these days, everything's about convenience and speed. If you want to skip the whole process and get that worn-in look from the get-go, we could put you on to a number of dope vintage jeans, but most of them are crazy expensive. Don't fret, my dude, we got you. You can get that vintage look for...free. Free? Yup, like a mixtape or streaming porn. The technique is called light abrasion and can be executed with a couple of tools and a little bit of free time. (Sound like your usual weekend repertoire, yeah? Ayo!) Keep reading and we'll show you how you can fake it 'til you make it...

The trend-setting, haute couture providing fashionistas over at Net-A-Porter have given us an excellent guide on how to do all the seasons tough denim trends, yet how to keep them feminine and pretty.

'Do It Yourself' Jeans - Sprayed & Spattered

One of the big fashion trends at the moment is recycling your own clothes, or 'shopping your closet'. But every girl also needs a bit of a lift and something that feels new, even if it isn't. We've been inspired by some fashion bloggers with nimble fingers and a crafty streak to showcase the best do-it-yourself denim washes. They are a bang on trend and a great way to revitalize a forgotten pair of jeans. Mimi Jung of BrookandLyn, is an expert denim d.i.y.-er and has created these supercool skinnies, which were originally grey, by spraying and dripping bleach. The grey shade has bleached to this lovely nude-y pink shade. Of course, if you did these on black or blue jeans, the bleached-out shade would be different - but the idea would work just as well.
Just spray on bleach, or bleach and water mix, from a plastic spray pump bottle (for watering plants, or an old kitchen cleaner spray bottle perhaps) and wait for the results. Take care of anything that might be damaged by the bleach - the bathroom is the best place for this kind of thing - and also take care of yourself! The better made the denim, and the darker the shade, the longer it will take to bleach out. Also, remember that when you rinse the bleach out, the effect may be more pronounced than what you see beforehand. Rinse with water (some people recommend vinegar to stop the bleach acting on the denim) and dry.

DenimTherapy for Unintentional Destruction!

DenimTherapy.com is an up and coming site in world of denim repair. Maybe it has not recently crossed your mind to look for a denim repair shop because your head (like mine) has been buried in the sand of intentionally torn and worn denim! Yet, not every pair of jeans is meant to be destroyed. So, if you have found that your favorite pair has recently gone from trendy to trashed, you may want to check out DenimTherapy.com for a quick and reliable fix. You will get those same exact jeans back that you never wanted to give up in the first place (You know, the ones with that delicious broken in softness and fit that you cried over when you tore them in that absolutely unforgivable spot...)
DenimTherapy.com does not "discriminate" either. They will take your mom's Gloria Vanderbilt's from 1970 or those Rock & Republic's from last month. From what I understand, DenimTherapy.com does not simply "patch" your jeans either. They actually find the same threads and denim materials and then weave your jeans back together at the point of damage. Check out some of the before and after pictures, below. I have to admit, this does not look like a patch. In all actuality, it looks pretty darn good...
