Which Are The Best Maternity Jeans?

Paper Denim & Cloth Straight Leg Maternity Jean

Finding the right pair of maternity jeans is not an easy task, but a great fitting pair of jeans is a maternity wardrobe essential. Here are a few pointers from PUSH Maternity buyer (and mum of two) Susan Kirby to get you started.

For the very best in skinny maternity jeans check out Earnest Sewn Harlan jean customised exclusively for maternity by PUSH and available in indigo and black. This is a super skinny and sexy jean; however it is best avoided if your thighs are on the heavy side! For those of us who fall into this category, but don fancy the ubiquitous bootcut, check out Paper Denim & Cloth straight leg maternity jean (see above), also exclusive to PUSH in the UK, or Serfontaine Cruiser cropped jean which can be worn with or without a turn-up.

Denim Advice - Jeans For Pear Shapes

Q) Dear Donna, Hi im 5"3 and weigh 10st6lbs, most of which sits on my hips and thighs I find it totally impossible to find jeans that fit especialy on the thighs. Can you recomend any particular makes that i could try? (From Sarah)

A) Although this sounds totally mad, you should actually try some low rise jeans. If you go for something high-waisted, it could cinch you in at the waist too much and draw emphasis to your lovely legs and embrace the thighs a little too lovingly. What I would suggest is a trouser style jean. They're fabulous, and are a great casual look for Summer. J & Company have one called the Robertson Jean (see above) that sits low on the hips, skims over the bum and has a wideish leg ending in a cuff at the bottom. They're great and super flattering. They have the room in the thighs you're looking for and the style will lend you a relaxed air. (Answered by Donna Ida Thornton, owner of Donna Ida Denim Boutique in London)

Denim Advice - Jeans For Fab 40 Year Olds

Q) Is there a nice fitting, fashionable jean for the 40+ age group? I am 5'3" tall & 47years old. The problem is usually I find the waist of my jeans too tight. On the other hand, if I get a comfortable waist the legs/bottom are way too big. Is there any style of Paige jeans that would fit a thicker waist that is also not too high waisted or too low waisted? I think I represent most everyone I talk to, well, in my age group anyhow. Thanks for any help you can share! (Submitted by A. Johnson)

A) Paige would have been at the top of my list of recommendations so I'm glad you brought her up. Both the Hollywood Hills (see above) and Hidden Hills styles would suit your body type. They're both a mid-rise jean with the Hidden Hills having a slightly higher rise than the Hollywood Hills, 9" as opposed to 8.25" - that extra three quarters of an inch counts! Q) I am 5 ft 2 in and of slim build. What jeans should I wear to make me look taller and my legs longer? (Submitted by Yogi Kong)

A) I'm 5 foot - no inches to add. I am wearing 18th Amendment's Colbert jeans (see above) at the moment - they're high waisted and have a fantastic flare that give the impression one is walking on stilts! And if you peek underneath you'll see I'm not far off in this season's huuuuuge platforms. For the first time ever I actually look tall (Answered by Donna Ida Thornton)
