Celeb Denim Trend - High Waist Wide Leg Jeans

flu.JPG
This month's celebrity denim trend is high waisted wide leg jeans. This look was actually kick-started last September when Kate Moss wore a pair of vintage Chloe jeans to the TopShop fashion show. Now in 2007 J Lo and Kylie have decided to get in on the act with varying degrees of success. This look is a tricky one to pull off though, if you get it wrong you can end up looking like a badly dressed child from the 1970s - that means you Geri Halliwell (see below).

Celebrity Denim Trend - High Waist Skinny Jeans

High-waisted denim is big news in 2007 and here are a couple of celebs that are right on top of this trend. Hollywood fashionista Mischa Barton was photographed in a pair of Sass & Bide Hulsey Strutters last week whilst Black Eyed Pea Fergie wore an unknown pair of high-waisted skinny leg jeans when she appeared on MTV's TRL recently.

18th Amendment Jeans

18th3.jpg
18th Amendment are one of the brands that are responsible for introducing the new trend for high-waisted jeans. The label was started by Australian denim importer Rachel Rose who named it after the Amercian law banning the sale of alcohol, otherwise known at Prohibition. The collection is inspired by the era that followed when speakeasies, gangsters and flappers came into existence. That glamorous and decandent lifestyle is reflected in these long-legged, high-waisted jeans which are named after movie stars of the past such as Lauren Bacall (above) and Gina Lollobridgida (below).

Denim Chic 2007 by Vogue

ds1.jpg
Vogue has kicked off 2007 with a in depth feature on denim chic around the world. The report highlights the very best denim designs coming out of Stockholm, Sydney, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Europe. The only problem is that the whole article is in French, however judging by the photos I am pretty sure that their predictions for this year are high-waists (see jeans by Diesel above) and coloured/patterned jeans (see April 77 jeans below). And to top it all off they even have an interview with me!

2007 is shaping up to be the year that low-rise jeans were replaced by their high-waisted counterparts in every fashionista's wardrobe. Sass & Bide are are always at the forefront of any new trend - they were one of the original companies producing skinny jeans and now they are one of the first denim labels to add a high-waisted jeans to their range. Their new Denim & Play Collection includes the Hulsey Strutter (see above), a distinctive looking high-waisted waisted slim leg jean with front deep patch pockets. With the increased popularity of jeans like this hopefully it won't be long before we can say goodbye to the dreaded muffin top and whale tail.

7 For All Mankind For 2007

71.jpg
7 For All Mankind were one of the brands which really kick started the premium denim craze and for a couple of years their distinctive looking jeans were everywhere. Since they were so closely associated with the faded bootcut look 7 seem to have struggled a little with the recent fashion for dark and skinny jeans. They are having no such problems with the emerging trend for high waisted jeans, these new Farrah Trouser Jean in Mercer provide a great looking alternative for fashionistas who are bored with their skinny jeans.
