Unused Fall/Winter 2009 Lookbook
I am loving the Fall/Winter lookbook from Japanese brand Unused, not only do the jeans look pretty good but they have also chosen the interesting approach of using an old dude to model the clothes instead of the usual skinny hip young things.
History of the Evisu Seagull
We are excited about the new evolution of Evisu now that new CEO/Creative Director Scott Morrison has taken over the brand. Previously of Paper Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn, known for classic jeans that are amazingly soft and comfortable with incredible washes, Scott is sure to do more amazing work with Evisu. We spotted this history of the Evisu online and thought we'd share it with our readers.
Designer Hidehiko Yamane started Evisu in 1991 in Osaka, Japan and mimicked Levi's Red Tab 501XX. He personally hand painted his Seagull logo on every pair. What we love is that Scott Morrison has taken the famous seagull logo and distressed it perfectly, giving the pockets a worn in, not-too-subtle but not-too-eye-popping either look. Can't wait to see more!

Natural Selection Denim

I never thought I'd hear this description of what inspired a designer, but new denim brand Natural Selection was inspired by Darwin's theory of evolution! From the raw unlaundered denim to the authentically treated pair, which might be over 100 years old, the notion that only the strongest will survive fits the brand's keen desire to keep on evolving and achieve cult status in the market.
Design details include 14.5oz, red selvedge, narrow-width denim from Kurabo mills, Okayama Japan. Washes range from raw, through to bruised, broken and finally to buried, all are finished by hand. Priced between 140 GBP to 185 GBP, you'll find the brand at Start, Selfridges and Coggles.

Evisu: The Dirty Dozen

Starting over two years ago, 13 participants gathered through the Supertalk forums to each make their mark on a brand new pair of Lot 2000 No.1 Special's from Evisu. The Evisu jeans started off in NYC, and were worn by each participant for a total of one month (no washing!) before being passed on to the next person. The jeans traveled to Germany, London, Japan and beyond - all to break in a raw pair of jeans. Read more about the project here. Would you have participated? I'm not a big fan personally of the idea of wearing jeans for a long period of time without washing, but I have to admit, these look perfectly faded in towards the end of the journey!

Jay-Z in a Denim Jacket & Prps Jeans

Recording artist Jay-Z performed the grand finale performance at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards wearing a denim jacket under a leather vest and Prps Jeans in Dark Oiled Stained. After the award show he then attended the official MTV VMA after party at his New York City based 40/40 Club minus his Yankees hat.

Tripleworks Denim Goods

Tripleworks Denim Goods of Japan is showing a few models of shuttle loomed denim at (capsule) show. Some of the more interesting models - "Natural," "Future," and "Permanent" Indigo Denim - allow for the buyer to choose what level of wear they're looking to get out of their jeans. The "Future" Indigo Denim is specially treated to allow for the denim to "break in" colorwise at a quickly pace than their "Natural" model. On the otherhand, the wearer looking for a pair of jeans that are blisteringly difficult to fade should choose the "Permanent" Indigo Denim. All three are cut from 16oz selvedge and look great. Good to see them at the show. (Selectism)
