Denim Aficionado Q & A - Judy Aldridge

judy_1.jpg
Here is the second in a new regular feature interviewing denim aficianados, this time the person in the hot seat is Judy Aldridge who has her own blog called Atlantis Home.

1) How would you describe your denim style?
I like denim that's had work put into it--rough and aged. I like tough denim.

2) What do you look for in a pair of jeans?
Something new--surprise me---please!!! Jeans that look great with boots-

3) Who are your top 3 favourite brands and why?
Hysteric Glamour--the wash, quality, and details make these jeans. The Proportion of Blue has a great fit--at least for me. The perfect pair of vintage 501's--the new ones aren't working for me.

4) How many pairs of jeans do you own and what is the most you have paid for a pair?
Probably about 50 pair. Only 20 in current rotation. $400.00, but I can't remember which ones.

5) What are the first pair of jeans you remember?
Wow--I had an amazing pair of patchwork denim wide leg jeans in the 70's--my sisters friend borrowed them and I never saw them again.

Denim Aficionado Q & A - Mimi Jung

brookandlyn_chain_denim1.jpgDIY jeans original Rodan vs. Griffith (chained, ripped)

This week we start a new regular feature interviewing denim aficionados. The first person to take part in the Q & A is Mimi Jung who has her own great blog brookandlyn.com. If you love denim and would like to be featured here then email your details.

1) How would you describe your denim style?
I'm a bit fickle when it comes to my denim. I'm always adding new styles to my collection. I wear skinny, wide, tapered, straight, high waisted, natural waisted, all sort of shades and the list goes on.

2) What do you look for in a pair of jeans?
At this point in my denim collection, I only have two excuses left to splurge on a new pair - unique color and style. The fit doesn't matter that much since I get all of my jeans tailored. I'm short with a smallish waist so it's highly unlikely that a pair off the rack will fit.

3) What are your favourite pair of jeans and why?
My favorite pair changes every couple of months. Right now its a pair of recently DIY jeans that I bought in Basel about 5 years ago. The label says Kembei, but unfortunately I've never been able to find any information about the company. It's a dark blue pair that I recently slow bleached, sanded down and ripped for a natural fade. I've been wearing them pretty much with everything. They add great contrast to all of my formal tops, as well as add some character to my more casual wear. That reminds me, I have to get them dry cleaned.

Stockholm's trendiest are flirting with 80s' subdued pastels and skin-tight acid wash. Balance out the girly hues with a tough leather jacket or biker gloves.

Tokyo Streetwear: Acid Wash Jackets

On the streets of Tokyo, a baggy acid-wash jacket mixed with pastels serves up 80s charm, or paired with monochrome clothes and an oversized neutral bag looks beautifully understated avant-garde.

New Spanish Label Denimfactoria

Image00011.jpg
Be a haute hippie in a pair of Charlie superflares or Alpha widelegs from new Spanish label Denimfactoria. The daring wide cuffs on both styles are cocky yet refined- fit for play and work. The similar, cuffless Bravo style has been popular streetwear for trendsetting Spanish celebs Mireia Oller (in the flowy khaki waistcoat) and Gala Gonzalez (in the leather bomber).

Check out Denimfactoria's website for more of the Winter 08 collection, which also includes boyfriend jeans, long shorts, and intentionally wrinkled skinnies. Currently, only boutiques in Spain carry the jeans, but they can be ordered online at pasionforfashion.com, which delivers to most countries.

Street Style: Blazers & Denim

paris.jpg
As the cool weather rolls in, guys are throwing on snappy blazers over their usual jeans and tees. The boys on the street show us the look can run the gamut from sharp sophisticate to downtown mod. In Paris, a trendy check button-up is toned down under a grey wool waistcoat and matching fitted jacket. Black jeans and fresh loafers in an offbeat colour add just the right amount of charm. In Berlin and Stockholm, the innocuous bow-tie dappers up the classic black blazer worn with cuffed jeans. The warm-toned tan blazer is automatically more casual, but in visually structural herringbone and with a serious tie, a New York gentleman easily pulls off wearing jeans to work. The same colour now, oversized or in bold houndstooth? More street corner punk than corner office chuck.
