New Denimocracy Ad Campagin

Here's something I like to see - an advert for denim that is not only sexy but has a twisted sense of humour as well. This one comes from the warped minds at Denimocracy and the creative team at Smallz & Raskind.

Marcus Ohlsson captures Masha Novoselova for the new Sisley Jeans campaign, I doubt that this supermodel on the rise could take a bad picture. Masha, one of the rising stars of the modeling world has been the face of Miss Sixty (Fall 2008), has appeared on the covers of German, Russian and Japanese Vogue, British Harper's Bazaar and walked the runway for numerous top designers. Now we see the Russian born beauty as the face (and body) of Sisley Jeans and Clothing in what is one of the hottest campaigns this year and staying on trend Sisley has produced a video to accompany the photos for those who can't get enough of Masha!

Hussein Chalayan and Susie Crippen Talk Denim

J Brand designer and creative director Susie Crippen sits down with Hussein Chalayan to talk about their collaboration. Chalayan is one of my favorite designers, his avant-garde approach to fashion which he mixes with technology is breathtaking!

Peaches Geldof talks Denim on NYLON TV

If there is anyone out there wondering why it is that Peaches Geldof (a minor UK celeb) comes in for so much abuse in the media, just check out this charmless video of her patronising the general public about their choice of denim.

bluegold.jpg

Here is the trailer for the forthcoming denim documentary Blue Gold: American Jeans which we told you about a month or two ago. No news on release date rate, if anyone knows anything about this could they let us know.

Here is an update to this story from the director Theis Jessen:

"We are still filming a lot all over the world, soon Turkey (ISKO - denim
mill) and then back to Japan. We have recently - and since the teaser was put together- included a whole lot more of interesting people from the jeans world - designers and brands, but also people from the music industry (we just met with Mark Ramone from "The Ramones", the fashion world such as really interesting editors etc etc.

Here are some of the people/brands we have filmed - Jean Touitou - APC, Tommy Hilfiger, Seven jeans,
Mark Ramone (The Ramones), Daryl Hall (Hall and Oates), Models, Edun, Ralph Lauren, Cheap Monday, RRL, Calvin Klein, Jim Moore - GQ Magazine, Renzo -Diesel, The Gap, ISKO - denim mill, Andrew Olah - Olah/Kingpins, Levi's, EVISU, Dao-Yi Chow, Sean John and Scott Morrison.

The film is going to amazing. We are getting tremendous feedback when we talk to people. Regarding the release date we don't know yet as it depends on the post production, but we are planning on doing festivals and of course a theatrical release. We are working hard on getting investors/sponsors for the finishing funds as the post production for film is costly and we want it to look great. "

Resin Denim Designer Interview

Resin_3.jpg

From the visionaries behind Paper Cloth and Denim, founder Chris Gilbert teams up with designers Durango Adams and Chantel Valentene Inniss to launch Resin Denim this fall. Blending American styling with the vibe of New York City the line is made from Japanese Kurabo denim which is one of the oldest and most respected denim mills operating today. Each season an emerging artist will be designing special pocket linings creating one-of-a-kind collection pieces. The line for men and women is set to retail between $128 - $158 and will be available in stores and online at ResinDenim. Denimology had the great luck to chat with the designers before their launch.

1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing?

Jeans are ingrained into our culture, They have crossed generations and class barriers because they are a staple item for the rebel and the conformist. Easy to wear and always sexy, their ability to evolve has cemented their position in our present and future wardrobes.

2) Last time I counted there were over 200 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest?

RESIN was birthed from a company rooted in the genesis of the "premium" denim market. Working with founder Chris Gilbert and having the history of Paper Denim and Cloth as a foundation, we have built a new vision maintaining the same ethos of quality denim and great fit. There are many denim brands trying to find their niche in a very saturated market. RESIN appeals to a customer whose appreciation of great denim goes beyond the hype.

3) Who do you imagine is a typical customer?

It's difficult to imagine a RESIN customer as typical. We don't dictate how to wear what we make. Our "typical" customer styles our jeans as they see fit, inspired to express their individuality. Denim, like all personal style should be effortless and organic. In turn, the way they wear it inspires us when designing the future collections.
